Gertrude Illuminates

The fabulous Gertrude Street Illuminates, an installation and light show that takes place each year along the inner Fitzroy street which connects Smith to Brunswick.

Melbourne has long been a city of cultural significance, and a place pulsating with creative energy. A city that not only supports the arts, but thrives on it.

Gertrude Street Illuminates runs over ten nights each winter, with 30 shop fronts participating. Each year a new group of artists are chosen to project film, animation or live performances onto shop front windows, alleyways, or in some cases, entire buildings. Starting at dusk and running until midnight, the street soon fills with pedestrians who wander along the street at leisure, taking in each shop front art show.

Makes for the perfect pre-dinner show.
